(I was not happy!) Long story short- I have two hop plants available for free to a good home. One is Cascade, and I can't remember the other for the life of me. I was going to look it up before using them for the first time this year. I've posted pictures here: http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~jdboley/hops1.jpg http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~jdboley/hops2.jpg They are now lying on my back porch, with the roots/rhizomes in water. The first person to pick them up gets them. (3609 Claremont, Lafayette) Feel free to just grab them if I'm not home, but please let the list know when they're no longer available. - Jon From jdboley at purdue.edu Wed Sep 1 12:46:19 2010 From: jdboley at purdue.edu (Jon Boley) Date: Wed, 1 Sep 2010 12:46:19 -0400 Subject: [THC] free hops In-Reply-To: <4c7e8058.639be60a.4a7b.ffffb2fc@mx.google.com> References: <4c7e8058.639be60a.4a7b.ffffb2fc@mx.google.com> Message-ID: The hops are now gone. > -----Original Message----- > From: Jon Boley > Sent: Wednesday, September 01, 2010 11:12 AM > To: thc at lafinlarry.net > Subject: [THC] free hops > > As I was leaving the house this morning, I caught my landlord ripping > my hops plants out of the ground. ?(I was not happy!) > Long story short- I have two hop plants available for free to a good home. > > One is Cascade, and I can't remember the other for the life of me. ?I > was going to look it up before using them for the first time this > year. > I've posted pictures here: > http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~jdboley/hops1.jpg > http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~jdboley/hops2.jpg > > They are now lying on my back porch, with the roots/rhizomes in water. > The first person to pick them up gets them. ?(3609 Claremont, Lafayette) > Feel free to just grab them if I'm not home, but please let the list > know when they're no longer available. > > - Jon > > _______________________________________________ > THC mailing list > THC at lafinlarry.net > http://lafinlarry.net/mailman/listinfo/thc_lafinlarry.net > THC list options page: http://lafinlarry.net/mailman/options/thc_lafinlarry.net > THC mail archives: http://lafinlarry.net/pipermail/thc_lafinlarry.net/ > Like bulletin boards? ?Join the THC BB at http://www.tippyhomebrewers.org/phpBB3/index.php > > From krdoerr at gmail.com Fri Sep 10 13:59:47 2010 From: krdoerr at gmail.com (Kevin Doerr) Date: Fri, 10 Sep 2010 13:59:47 -0400 Subject: [THC] GFI run tomorrow morning Message-ID: I'll be heading to Great Fermentations tomorrow morning. No commercial beer. Really the only rule you have to follow. You can bring your homebrew to share. You don?t have to. You will be able to buy People?s beer, and sample homebrew. ? Park out back. This is most important for those brewing or staying most of the day. Burroughs St. (~300 yds past front entrance)takes you around back. ? Don?t bring food. Meetings are typically pot-luck/BBQ type affairs, but this time we will be providing food at 2:00. ? Bring a chair if you want to sit around and hang out. The extract brew will probably go from 2:00 until about 5:00, and the all-grain brewers starting at 11:00 will likely finish around then too. ? You must be 21 with ID. There will be an ID check and you might even get a fancy paper bracelet out of it! Brewers. ? Base malt and yeast provided by People?s. ? There will be an electric mill you can use to crush it. If there is anyone who hasn?t memorized the route to People?s you can get directions here?. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=People's+Brewing+Company,+2006+N.+9th+St.+Road,+Lafayette,+IN+47904&sll=40.437128,-86.885145&sspn=0.003997,0.006539&ie=UTF8&hq=People's+Brewing+Company,+2006+N.+9th+St.+Road,+Lafayette,&hnear=Lafayette,+Tippecanoe,+Indiana+47904&z=16 I hope to see you all there!!! They are having a competition to produce a new brown ale kit for their store. The concept is to brew a batch of your best brown ale ( which need not be strictly to style ), and submit 3 bottles by October 23. There are some criteria, including using ingredients available at Great Fermentations, being commercially viable ( if your beer costs $50 to make they might not sell many kits ), and not using herbs, spices etc. The prize for the winner is to have your recipe produced as a kit at Great Fermentations, and to have that kit bear your name for the beer. Sounds like inspiration to fire up the brew pot! If you are interested in this small bit of brewing immortality, you can sign up for their e-mail newsletter at www.greatfermentations.com, and check out all the details. Chances are good that I will be able to transport entries down to GFI for those who wish to enter. Slainte, Lloyd -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... My batch of "Wild Hops Brown" would constitute a TERRIBLE example, a classic "do not enter this no matter how good it is." I'm not saying it's going to be any kind of a prize winner, but even if it were, it would be a terrible entry into this competition. Due to the fact that it is made from the 7th through 11th gallons of runnings from a batch requiring a 33 lbs grain bill, the first 6 gal of runnings went into the Russian Imperial Stout for next Feb Winter Warmer. It's just not kit material in several ways.
