Members:

I received an e-mail from Bob Ostrander a couple of weeks ago detailing a project for the brew clubs of Indiana. He has talked to Brown Forman ( makers of Woodford Reserve Bourbon ) and has secured a barrel for each club to use for a batch of beer, free of charge. The only stipulation is that each club submit three bottles for a special sub competition at the State Fair called the "Woodford Reserve Cup ", and serve five gallons of the beer at the State Fair Homebrew Competition awards ceremony/reception.
Woodford Reserve is a premium Bourbon, and I had wanted to use one of their barrels for the last project. Accordingly, after talking to a few club members who are interested, I have notified Bob that THC will participate. This e-mail is to make people aware of this opportunity, and to offer those who are interested the chance to age 5 gallons ( or 10 ) of beer in a premium Bourbon barrel.
The style of beer will be determined by those who participate. The beer needs to be conditioned and ready for competition in mid June. The format for this project will likely be similar to last time:

        1.) Line up participants.

2.) Have participants select a beer style, and recipe.

3.) Have a group brew, and those unable to attend brew their beer close to the same date.

4.) After brews have aged in secondary for a short time, rack to barrel.

5.) After appropriate aging time in barrel ( perhaps a month ) transfer back to participants.

This is a great opportunity to put some of your own Bourbon Barrel beer on tap ( or bottled ), support your homebrew club, and participate in a statewide club activity. If you are interested, let me know, and you too can be on your way to Bourbon Barrel beer! Slainte,

                                                                                        Lloyd
