Alan and I are making plans to split a half-barrel of Dundee Oktoberfest
into three cornies. Cost for a third would be ($79*1.07)/3 = $28.18 or
at least that's close. The 1.07 multiplier is sales tax. I think.
We're not sure if we're going to transfer at 9 pm tonight (Wed 9/16/09)
or tomorrow night somewhat earlier.
If a huge number of people are interested, well, somebody would have to
coordinate another keg (they have five or something like that at the VBS
in the Village), and if you got it and brought it over to my house when
Alan and I are doing the transfer, well, it's be a re-kegging party I
guess. First person with a definite, convincing "I'm in" will be our
third third, and if nobody wants the third third I guess it'll be mine.
The transfer will of course be accomplished anaerobically by pushing the
beer with CO2 from the half barrel into a CO2-filled corny keg.
This Oktoberfest got high marks (I mean first place) when Rick and I did
a blind judging of I think nine 12 ounce bottled Oktoberfests two years
ago just for fun. It was a surprise, but maybe it shouldn't have been.
Beers that travel from very far, or sit around in the store very long,
often suffer from the bad handling and storage. Beer Advocate has it as
a "B-" but I recall it being much better than that. (Those people who
rate beers on Beer Advocate are just pretending to judge anyway, for the
most part. It is absolutely NOT possible to be completely objective
when you know the identity or the brewer of what you are judging.....)
