It's a fair question -- I suggest that anyone with an IPA they'd like to
have judged against Sean's respond AT ONCE, like in the next day or two,
and if there are takers we'll quickly convene a panel of judges to
choose the one that represents the club. If nobody else is interested
then there will be no need to vet Sean's entry. and we could even do the
"club-pays-for-shipping-and-entry" that we have done previously. Either
way (whether Sean's is uncontested locally or if we have a judging
session.).
A judging session would not take long, and most likely consist of
whoever we can assemble of the local ranked BJCP judges as we could
assemble -- these are Nancy Hartman, Lloyd Chatham, Victor Kostyuchenko,
Kurt Brennamen, Rick Westerman, John Blichmann, and yours truly, Linda
Swihart. (Robert White and Jerome Grskovic took and passed the exam
here, and are or were members of our group, but neither live locally
anymore.) Two judges is regarded as enough to judge a beer at a
sanctioned competition, although three is better. The C-o-C choosing
process doesn't *have to* be done that formally, but it doesn't hurt
either. If there is a person or people who are interested in judging
and possibly studying for the test -- there's one in Indy in the Spring
-- you would be invited to join in the fun.
The important thing is that it has to be as blind as can be. Nobody
entering a beer may judge, and all judges must be unable to recognize
which beer is whose.
Any takers?
Thanks for being a motivator Sean.
