Aug 3 is "Mead Day" and of course it's possible to take the curmudgeonly
tone (I often do) that "it's just a *$^!@! 'greeting card holiday' kind
of thing invented and promoted by the people who will make money from it!"
It's also possible to get a free copy of Ken Schramm's book as a bonus
for joining the AHA during the month of August... read what Kathryn
wrote to the "Evange-ale-ists" recently:
As usual there is an AHA membership offer tied in with Mead Day 2008. This
year any NEW or RENEWING member who joins the AHA through an AHA
Evange-Ale-ist is entitled to a FREE copy of Compleat Meadmaker! The
membership form ......and the offer is available online.....
http://www.beertown.org/events/meadday/index.html
The offer is valid August 1-31, 2008.
Cheers,

Linda here again. It looks to me like you can get the book free with your $38 membership whether you go through an Evange-ale-ist or not. I just sent a request to become and Evange-ale-ist -- at this time Mark Schiess of Carmel is the only Indiana Evange-ale-ist -- but Kathryn's vacation program says she's out of the office until Aug 11.
That book is very nice to have if you want to learn about mead making. Actually, as I have found, it's necessary to READ it rather than just *having* it.....
And AHA membership is a wonderful value for the $38. Multi-year memberships are a little less cost per year. It gets you Zymurgy and a few other perks that will pay for the membership cost if you eat/drink at the places participating in the "Pub Discount Program." see <http://www.beertown.org/homebrewing/pubs.html>
PS Lila and I are going to be engaged in MMA (Mead Management Activities) on Friday after work. Two days away, stop by; we'll be in the basement probably, or maybe the kitchen. And I could be persuaded to have a little Mead Day get together on Saturday if there is interest.
